Sophomore to Sign with University of Miami

Harcum College sophomore forward Ivan Uceda has committed to play NCAA Division I basketball at University of Miami in Coral Gables, Florida. The 6’10” 235-pound forward will officially sign with the university during the NCAA’s November early signing period.

Uceda is the second player from the Harcum College men’s basketball program to attend an Atlantic Coast Conference program. The first was Harcum College graduate Baron Weijs who attended and played for the University of Maryland in College Park.

Uceda chose the University of Miami over numerous other Division I college scholarship offers which included Florida Atlantic, Villanova, Iowa State, Seton Hall, and St. John’s to name a few.

As a freshman, the Madrid, Spain native averaged 16.0 points and 10.7 rebounds for the Bears. This past summer Uceda was featured in Mullens Junior College Top 100, a by-invitation-only exposure event at Lindenwood University for the top 100 Junior College players from around the country.

He is part of a Harcum College men’s basketball team that returns four sophomore letter winners and has eleven new faces to the program. The Harcum College men’s basketball program is coming off their eighth consecutive season with at least twenty wins.  Ninth season head coach Drew Kelly will lead the Bears to the opening of their season on Saturday, November 2, 2013, as they play host to Hagerstown Community College of Hagerstown, Maryland.
