Local Attorney Appointed to the Chester County SPCA Board of Directors

Principal of Bazil McNulty Reinsurance Law Firm and long-time animal advocate, Steven G. Bazil has been selected to sit on the Chester County SPCA’s Board of Directors.

After recent reports of high euthanasia rates, unfilled positions and ineffective leadership, Senator Andrew Dinniman became involved in efforts to revamp and revitalize the ailing Chester County SPCA. In September he successfully brokered an agreement with SPCA President Conrad Mulhy whereby the Chester County SPCA would accept 11 new Board members – eight nominated by Dinniman and local attorney Jim McErlane as well as three nominated by the Delaware County council member and Animal Protection Board VP Mario Civera, Jr., since it sends a significant number of dogs to the Chester SPCA. Current President, Mulhy, will remain until the newly constituted board elects its new leader.  Dinniman and McErlane were astounded by the pool of interested candidates and were pleased to be able to select new Board members who together will provide the Chester County SPCA with a balance of expertise in the wide range of issues a kennel or any non-profit organization must confront.

Steven Bazil’s love of animals and his commitment to their well-being is multifaceted. In addition to adopting 3 rescue dogs and 5 cats, he has volunteered with rescue organizations, provided pro bono legal advice and organized fundraising events. He also drafted companion animal legislation, presented to Senator Dinniman, which has developed into the current S.B. #628.  “I truly look forward to the challenges that lie ahead. I am hopeful that the installation of a new Board of Directors will help restore the SPCA to its prior status as an outstanding rescue organization.  I believe our ultimate goal should be to create a no-kill shelter system through spay/neuter initiatives, adoption services and education. We need to end the barbaric act of euthanizing perfectly healthy, adoptable animals.”
