Congressman Chaka Fattah tours Bryn Mawr Hospital labs

On July 8, Congressman Chaka Fattah visited Bryn Mawr Hospital, part of Main Line Health, for a demonstration of the tests and equipment used to make disease diagnoses. Fattah, who serves as the lead Democrat on the House Appropriations Subcommittee on Commerce, Justice, and Science (CJS), is one of the most ardent supporters of medical and scientific research in Congress.

Walter Klein, MD, Bryn Mawr Hospital pathologist, had invited Fattah to tour the hospital’s pathology and histology labs when they met at a College of American Pathologists event in May. Bryn Mawr Hospital is located in Fattah’s district.

“Lab tours provide a unique opportunity for members of Congress to become familiar with the important role pathologists play in health care,” said Dr. Klein. “When members of Congress make legislative decisions that impact pathologists, it is crucial that they have an understanding of what pathologists do and how changes to the system will impact their ability to deliver quality care and accurate diagnoses to their patients.”
