DESCRIPTION:The adult choirs of Church of the Redeemer will sing Evensong
  on Sunday\, February 17 at 4:00 pm. Occurring on the First Sunday in Le
 nt\, the featured musical offerings will be Glouceter Service by Herbert
  Howells and Bleib bei uns by J. Rheinberger. The music will be conducte
 d by Dr. Michael Diorio\, Organist and Director of Music.\nThis Evensong
  is in particular observance of the beginning of Lent&mdash\;a special s
 eason in the Church calendar characterized by self-examination\, prayer 
 and preparation leading to the Passion and ultimately the Resurrection o
 f Jesus on Easter Day.\nThe order of worship for Evensong is taken from 
 the church service liturgy of Evening Prayer. It is used in many Episcop
 al and Anglican Churches and is celebrated in the late afternoon or even
 ing. It is commonly known as Evensong because the service is rendered ch
 orally (that is\, when most of the service is sung).\nDr. Michael Diorio
  conducts the choirs of The Redeemer. He came to the Church of the Redee
 mer in the summer of 2009 as interim Music Director and was named to the
  position in summer of 2010. A native of New Jersey\, Dr. Diorio receive
 d his Bachelor of Music degree in organ performance from Westminster Cho
 ir College\, Master of Music from the Institute of Sacred Music and the 
 School of Music at Yale University\, and Doctor of Musical Arts degree i
 n organ performance\, summa cum laude\, from Boston University where he 
 studied with James David Christie.
