What Should Replace FoodSource in Bryn Mawr?
The building has been vacant since the grocery store closed in 2011.
Patch wants to hear from residents of Bryn Mawr, Gladwyne and beyond: What should fill the retail vacancies of your neighborhood streets?
Today, we're spotlighting the former home of FoodSource, at 663 W. Lancaster Ave. in Bryn Mawr.
The grocery store, owned by GIANT, shut down at the end of business on Oct. 22, 2011, after GIANT President Rick Herring wrote in a press relese FoodSource had become "outdated."
Signs at the store encourage potential tenants to contact Fameco Real Estate at 610-834-8000.
Diane Weinberg, of Fameco, said the group is "actively marketing the property right now, but no tenant has been secured."
So tell us in the comments section below: What kind of business would you be most likely to frequent if it moved in? And what other vacancies in town do you have ideas about filling?

Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf, coffee shop based out of CA, just opened their first East Coast stores earlier this year in NYC and DC. Would love for them to have a presence here! Or a good American restaurant that isn't a "pub" like Clyde's or Daily Grill, both are restaurant chains in DC 'burbs.

It would be nice to have Barnes and Noble back.

Most retail/dining/etc are already nearby, but, in addition to a bookstore, which generally seems not financially viable, maybe a solid quick meal diner (with some upscale elements), move the bakery from across the street where parking stinks (and have them do breads and donuts), and a flower and garden shop.

It would be great to combine some of these ideas, a coffee, tea and book shop with a space for a year round farmers market a la Ardmore without the price gouging.

Without tearing down and rebuilding I could see a high end motorcycle shop there. Tearing down, I think a nice condo complex would be fitting.

We already have too many eateries in Bryn Mawr. I feel we could use something like an auto store where one could purchase special plates, car covers, etc. Something on the order of a high end Pep Boys.

Anything but another chain. We need more family-owned local establishments. The big guys are putting all the little guys out of business.

According to "Food Trade News" July 2012 issue, look for all ACMEs to close or be sold , including the new one next door here in Bryn Mawr, due to parent Supervalu,Inc. bankruptcy. Botton Dollar would bring cheap food, at last, to mainline, and money saved might pay maids salaries.

If the new ACME is sold, maybe GIANT will move into that location. After all, there's no GIANT between Wynnewood and St. Davids.

Ditto on what Ted said. What about an eatery/food store with high end coffees and teas for consumption and retail, with a comfy spot to relax next to a bookshelf With all the space, some could be left for community things, farmers market, craft shows, Art exhibitions, etc
