The Week Ahead: 5 Things to Know
A heads up for those who live or work in Bryn Mawr, Gladwyne, Villanova or Rosemont.
1. The Bryn Mawr Civic Association holds its montly meeting at 7:30 p.m. Monday. District Judge Kathleen M. Valentine will be on hand to talk about the operation of her court and to answer questions.
2. The Lower Merion School District school board meets at 8 p.m. Monday night in the administration building.
3. At 7:55 p.m. Wednesday, the Lower Merion Board of Commissioners is scheduled to vote on a two-year contract for Township Manager Doug Cleland, paying him a little more than $200,000 in 2012 and 2013. (The contract is attached to this story as a PDF and can be read in Scribd.)
4. A Gladwyne blood drive will be held from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday at St. Christopher's Church to benefit a 5-year-old Gladwyne boy who was diagnosed with Neuroblastoma last spring. Sign up to donate here, or go to redcrossblood.org and enter sponsor code 0224202.
5. Celebrate Earth Day on Sunday at Riverbend in Gladwyne at a free "Trees are TREEmendous!" event from 1 to 4 p.m. This weekend is also Lower Merion Township's first "Spring Cleanup Weekend" of 2012: Bring your refuse and recycling free of charge to the township public works complex (1300 N. Woodbine Ave., Penn Valley) from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. "There will be three non-profit organizations there to take anything that can still be used, such as unwanted computers, bicycles, furniture, clothing and more," Commissioner Jenny Brown writes in an email to constituents.
