Lower Merion School District administrators showed off some of their abundant crop of National Merit Scholar honorees at Monday night's school board meeting, saying they were part of what makes the district exceptional.

Superintendent Chris McGinley called the 72 "commended" and "semifinalist" seniors from Harriton and Lower Merion "one of the top-performing classes in Pennsylvania."

Students were among 1.5 million peers nationwide who took the PSAT test last year. "Commended" students finish among the top 5 percent, "semifinalists" among the top 1 percent. Fourteen of the district's honorees performed perfectly on at least one portion of the test.
