Police: Three Men Tried to Rob Woman in Rosemont

A woman says she was walking on the sidewalk in front of the Radnor House Condominiums when she was attacked.

A woman told Radnor Police that she was attacked by three men while she was walking east on the sidewalk in front of the Radnor House Condominiums in Rosemont between 11 and 11:20 p.m. on Sunday, July 22.

According to the police report, she heard running footsteps coming toward her from behind, and moved to the side to allow them to pass. But she was then "struck from behind and placed in a headlock. At the same time, someone tried to pull the small backpack she had attached to her back," according to police.

The men who had her head pulled her to the ground and pinned her there and reportedly demanded, "Give us all you got." The woman continued to struggle, trying to grab the leg of one of the three men. Eventually the one who had her pinned let go and she was able to roll free.

According to the victim, the three were medium-skinned black men in their late teens to early 20s. None had visible facial hair, any distinguishing hair characteristics, headwear or piercings. Two of the men appeared to be about 5'8" and one was about 5'10". The taller one appeared to be the leader, and the one who had her pinned.

Within 30 seconds of the struggle, according to police, an older man approached traveling west on Lancaster Avenue. The car, possibly a dark green or blue in color Buick from the late 80's pulled over to the right still on the westbound side. The three men immediately ran across the street, got into the car, and it sped off.

The victim was not injured and the men were unable to get any items from her.

Anyone with any information on this crime should call Radnor Police at 610-688-0503.

Another instance of aggressive and cowardly criminal behavior. Full marks to the woman for fighting back. I'm glad she escaped physical injury, and hope the attack will not instill a lingering sense of fear. I also hope she gets herself some pepper spray and keeps it handy.

... "struck from behind and placed in a headlock"... "pulled her to the ground and pinned her there." "The victim was not injured."
Really???
God Bless her! She must be one strong woman!!!
I hope this looooong strip of sidewalk is now being considered a "hot-spot", if you will, as I also read highway robbery at 1000 E. Lancaster Ave. on your blotter.

When will you people wake up? The reason thugs are able to run roighshod over the law abiding is simply they have nothing to fear. Pepper spray? Bunk! A .45 caliber to send these animals back to their maker I say. Next time perhaps this young lady wont escape with her virtue and you sheep advocate she give them sore eyes. Ridiculous.

Steady on, heywood. While I am a strong advocate for lawful concealed carry, the practical reality is that many reject that option out of hand. Surely you would agree that for them, something is better than nothing.

Pepper spray definitely has its limitations, but its positives are significant: inexpensive, compact, easily deployed, localized effectiveness without risk of serious or lasting injury.

Quite frankly, even for those who do carry concealed, having a nonlethal option for self-defense seems like a smart idea to me.
