Police Blotter: DUIs, Public Drunkenness and Liquor Law Violations
The following information has been supplied by the Lower Merion Police Department. If arrests or charges are mentioned, they do not indicate guilt or a conviction.
On Monday afternoon, Lower Merion police reported to news media the following incidents from the past week in Bryn Mawr and Gladwyne:
DUI: On Aug. 21 at 12:15 a.m., a police officer on patrol noticed a car in the passing lane on the 1000 block of Conestoga Road in Bryn Mawr that had no headlights on, according to the police report. The car, which eventually turned its headlights on, was drifting in its lane and was unable to maintain a constant speed, police said. When pulled over, the 22-year-old driver failed a field sobriety test and was arrested for driving under the influence; he registered a .22 on a blood alcohol content test at headquarters, police said.
DUI: On Aug. 21 at 3:42 a.m., a police officer observed a car traveling the wrong way down S Merion Avenue in Bryn Mawr, a one way street, according to the police report. A 24-year-old Villanova resident failed a field sobriety test and was arrested for driving under the influence; on a blood alcohol content test taken at headquarters, he registered .26, more than three times the legal limit, police said.
DUI: After receiving report of an accident at 10:45 p.m. on Aug. 21, police responded to the 1000 block of Stony Lane, to find that a Merion Station man had driven into the fence of the golf club, according to the report. The 28-year-old man blew a .11 and was charged with DUI, police said.
Liquor law violation: An 18-year-old Villanova student was cited for underage drinking at the Bryn Mawr Court Apartments at 1:06 a.m. Aug. 24, police said.
Public drunkenness: At 1:25 a.m. Aug. 27, a 21-year-old Bryn Mawr resident was found wandering around the Bryn Mawr train station in what appeared to be an intoxicated state, police said; the woman was cited for public intoxication.
Liquor law violation: A 19-year-old Emerson student from California was cited for public drunkenness after a police officer observed him about 12:30 a.m. Aug. 25 walking unsteadily, then laying down in the grass in front of the Shipley School, according to the report. After an officer approached the student and examined his identification, the student was cited for public drunkenness and liquor law violation, police said.
