How Safe Are the Main Line's Hospitals?
A new hospital safety score ranks how safe area hospitals are for patients.
Three of the Main Line’s hospitals received an “A” rating in a recent hospital safety score released by the Leapfrog Group.
According to a release on the group’s website, the safety score is meant to “represent the very basic blocks of medical care,” and includes measurements for hand washing, computerized medication control and nurse staffing levels.
“A hospital may have the best surgeons and greatest technology in the world, but unless it is preventing infections and eliminating medical and medication errors and injuries, it is not delivering on … the premise of ensuring the safety of you and your loved ones,” states a release on the group’s website.
Check the chart below to see how your area hospital scored according to the group’s standards. Click the link to see how your hospital scored.

When I was in Bryn Mawr hospital last October no one came in to empty the trash or clean the room the 4 full days in the room. The nurses empty the trash. I sent in a response paper that they sent me and told them the story I never heard back. Thinking now it was probable tossed.

I guess the $1,000+ per night wasn't enough to pay for someone to empty the trash.

We’re sorry you didn’t receive a response to your feedback note, but your comments were certainly read and addressed. Each patient room is scheduled for cleaning daily (including emptying waste baskets). If this didn’t happen in your experience, we apologize. All the people of Bryn Mawr Hospital – including the Environmental Services staff who maintain the cleanliness of our hospital and the doctors, nurses and technicians who help provide direct care to our patients -- take very seriously our responsibility to deliver a superior experience for our patients and community. If you would like to discuss this matter further, please contact me at 484-337-8361. Deb Hetrick, Vice President of Operations, Bryn Mawr Hospital.

Jean, can't say for sure, but the economy has caused cuts in many businesses. Suggest you call Mrs.Andrea Gilbert, the hospital's President. Hope this helps.

I had a baby at Bryn Mawr Hospital this past January and I can't say enough positive words about how wonderful the experience was. All the clinical staff who came into my room were so friendly and caring and the housekeeping staff was very efficient and always had the trash emptied and the room nice and clean. Also, the room service dining selection was very good!
