Lecture: The Preservation of Native American Places

  • When/Where: Thursday, Oct. 13 at 7:45 p.m. at Waverly Heights, 1400 Waverly Road, Gladwyne
  • Why Go: Chief of the Lenape Nation of Pennsylvania, Chief Bob Mexhalaniyat (Red Hawk) Ruth, will teach about the indigenous heritage of Lower Merion and the preservation activities of the Lenape Nation of Pennsylvania. Shawn Evans, AIA, of Philadelphia-based Atkin Olshin Schade Architects, will present preliminary findings from his study of preservation practices among the pueblo peoples of New Mexico, Arizona and Texas.

Shiverfest at Riverbend

  • When/Where: Saturday, Oct. 15 from 4 to 9 p.m. at , 1950 Spring Mill Road, Gladwyne
  • Why Go: Enjoy a day of fun-filled Halloween-themed activities including a reptile show, live birds of prey show, pumpkin decorating, crafts, storytelling by the campfire, haunted hike, haystack jumping, face painting and more.
  • Cost: $10 in advance, $12 at the door. Free for kids ages 3 and younger.

One-Day Seminar: Silent Cinema

  • Why Go: Join four of Bryn Mawr Film Institute’s most popular instructors as they discuss diverse elements of a vibrant era in world cinema that is too often overlooked. This engaging day of learning includes lectures, film clips, and lively discussions, and allows you to dive into world cinema and culture while rediscovering the joys of education. Clover Market

  • When/Where: Sunday, Oct. 16 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at 12 E. Lancaster Ave., Ardmore
  • Why Go: This is the Clover Market's largest event yet, with over 70 sellers lined up to tout their art, vintage finds and homemade wares. Enjoy some bluegrass music and free crafts for the kids while you browse.
  • Cost: Free

Historic Preservation Lecture Series: Conservancy Showcase Tour

  • When/Where: Sunday, Oct. 16 at 1 p.m. Tour (running from 1 to 4 p.m.) begins at First Baptist Church, 120 East Athens Avenue, Ardmore
  • Why Go: This tour showcases five to six architecturally-rich historic properties, each possessing amenities essential for gracious living—open exclusively to Conservancy visitors during this one special afternoon. These Showcase houses (with asking prices ranging from over $1 million to almost $4 million), are located in Merion, Gladwyne, Haverford and Bryn Mawr.
  • Cost: $20 for Lower Merion Conservancy members, $25 for nonmembers
