College Students Return: Are They Good Neighbors?
What do you think about students being back in town?
With the start of a new semester, local college students are preemptively reminded by Lower Merion police to be good neighbors as part of a Community Harmony Program.
Some Bryn Mawr residents and Lower Merion Commissioner Scott Zelov (Ward 10-Bryn Mawr, Gladwyne and Haverford) have been vocal about the need to be vigilant about student misconduct in neighborhoods.
Others have expressed concern about college students being unfairly targeted by Lower Merion police.
One Patch commenter recently said: "Can't LM Police leave 'Nova students alone?? I know they need to make money off of them to stay one of the richest departments in the country, but they should be concerned with real criminals. LM Police have nothing better to do."

As long as the students behave themselves, I have no problem with them. I think this community benefits greatly by their presence because of the business they bring to our town. We should respect their rights to live as responsible adults among us.

Today's college students are no worse than local high schoolers when it comes to bad behavior. Nevertheless, without the various colleges located between Merion and Radnor, many businesses, already struggling, would be kaput.
When it comes to the LMPD, when I was a kid, a majority of the officers were LMHS grads. Back then, there really WAS a community relationship. Not any more.
