Celebrating Bryn Mawr 100
Business and institutional centenarians were recognized at the community event.

The first ever Bryn Mawr 100 celebration honored businesses and institutions that have been in Bryn Mawr for 100 years or more. There are 19 of them. The event provided area residents an opportunity to learn more about the history of Bryn Mawr, its businesses, and its institutions. There was music at the Gazebo, free bus tours of the town's historic areas, fire engine rides, free blood pressure screenings, historical exhibits, a sidewalk sale, and the customary Saturday farmers market.
At noon, there was a brief ceremony to present certificates of recognition to representatives of the 19 institutions more than 100 years old. Lower Merion Township Commissioner Scott Zelov presented the awards, giving a brief history of each recipient, and emphasized the importance of making sure those institutions continue to thrive.
Those institutions are: Aqua America, Bethel AME Church, Bryn Mawr College, Bryn Mawr Fire Co., Bryn Mawr Hospital, Bryn Mawr Post Office, Bryn Mawr Presbyterian Church, Bryn Mawr Train Station, Bryn Mawr Trust Company, Church of the Good Shepherd, Church of the Redeemer, Harriton House, John Fish Jewelers, Lower Merion Baptist Church, Our Mother of Good Counsel, St. Luke United Methodist Church, Saints Memorial Baptist Church, The Baldwin School, The Shipley School.
"They are the character of our community," Zelov said at the ceremony. "Their history is part of our history."
The three main organizers of the event were also recognized for the hard work in making it happen. They included Camera Shop owner and Bryn Mawr Business Association President Kathy Bogosian, Lower Merion Township Public Information Officer Brenda Viola, and Baldwin School's Dean of Students Pooh Gephart, who was credited as the driving force behind the effort.
