Bryn Mawr 100: If You Go
Check out the schedule for this rain-or-shine event, and read through some Patch profiles of the 19 institutions being honored.
Bryn Mawr is "honoring the past and embracing our future."
On Saturday, Sept. 10, Bryn Mawr is celebrating the 19 institutions—businesses, schools, churches and other places of interest—that are more than a century old in the first-ever Bryn Mawr 100 celebration.
The family-friendly event features something for everyone with free bus tours of the institutions, live music at the gazebo on Bryn Mawr Avenue, fire engine rides, old time games, sidewalk sales at businesses along Lancaster Avenue and the regularly scheduled Bryn Mawr Farmers Market. Festivities will last from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m.
The free 45-minute bus tours begin at 9:30 a.m. from the Bryn Mawr Trust buildings at 6 and 8 Bryn Mawr Ave.
Musical entertainment will begin at 11 a.m. with the Stan Slotter Quartet with music from Fats Waller, Jelly Roll Morton, and Scott Joplin. Music will continue until 2 p.m. with Blues Uprising.
There will also be a brief ceremony at noon at the gazebo.
The Shear Touch is putting up balloons all around town for the occasion and is hosting an Alex's Lemonade Stand complete with balloon animals beginning at 8 a.m. ElderNet will have hot dogs and cold water for a $1 donation. The Bryn Mawr Film Institute will have photographic displays assembled by The Camera Shop
Bryn Mawr Hospital is offering free parking in its parking garage, as is Aqua America in its lot.
