BMFI Visitor Parking Sees Changes

Visitors now need to sign in at the business office.

Daytime visitors to the Bryn Mawr Film Institute will now need to register at the business office when they park in one of the limited spaces behind the building.

BMFI sent out an e-mail to its patrons on Friday afternoon informing them of the change between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. on weekdays. Patrons used to be able to park in visitor spots without signing in.

Visitor parking for BMFI is available on a first-come, first-serve basis, said Devin Wachs, BMFI’s public relations coordinator. There are three visitor spaces reserved for MilkBoy Coffee patrons in the lot behind BMFI that do not require signing in, Wachs added.

After 5 p.m. on weekdays and on weekends, the BMFI lot and Bryn Mawr Trust lots are free for visitors to park.

The e-mail cautioned visitors that cars parked in the BMFI lot on weekdays before 5 p.m. could be towed. The e-mail went on to recommend parking in a long-term spot—signified by red meters that allow up to 12 hours of parking—in one of the nearby municipal lots.

“We’re working with the township to make more long-term meters available in the other lots so people have more parking options,” Wachs said. “It only affects parking before 5 p.m. on weekdays. It doesn’t really change except during the workweek. Otherwise, people can still park back there just like they always could.”

Tom Pintande, director of parking services for the township, said there is a meeting scheduled with BMFI next week to discuss the possibility of making more long-term parking available. He said he could not comment on the likelihood that this change would happen.

“Anything’s possible,” Pintande said. “I really can’t say what’s going to happen at this point, but there is a meeting scheduled.”
