Harcum College Offers Fall Workshops In Its Residential Design Program
Harcum College is pleased to announce its Fall 2012 semester courses for its Continuing Studies Residential Design Program. Four classes (credit or non-credit options are available) will be offered at the college’s Bryn Mawr campus.
The program, the Main Line’s first Residential Design Certificate Program, offers students the fundamental principles of designing and decorating residential interior spaces. All courses are taught by professionals and educators working in the fields of interior design, architecture and art.
The first course, Furniture & Application, is a 3-credit or noncredit ten-week course beginning Wednesday, October 3 that will provide students with an overview of furniture styles. Students will study the history of furniture from Egyptian to contemporary, as well as learn to apply furniture styles, correct scale, size, quality and application of furniture in a given environment. Students registered for Introduction to 3D Modeling Program – a 3-credit or non-credit ten-week course beginning Thursday, October 4 – will be introduced to 3D modeling through lecture, demonstration and hands-on experience. Students will learn how to use free software to make floor plans and designs come alive (prerequisite: proficiency in computer skills, Design I).
The week of October 15, Harcum will offer two additional eight-week classes. On Monday evenings beginning October 15, the 2-credit or noncredit course, Design I - Principles of Design, will teach students the use of drawing methods, including drafting, required for designers to communicate their design ideas. Students will select an interior space and develop planned drawings and sample boards.
Tuesday evenings beginning October 16, students will have the opportunity to take the 2-credit or noncredit course, Fabric, Finishes and Materials. The course provides an introduction to and understanding of the selection of fabrics, finishes and architectural materials used in interiors.
All courses and workshops will take place from 6-8 p.m. To register, please call 610-526-6087 or visit www.harcum.edu/residentialdesign.
